We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data in compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
2. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, or to work more efficiently, and to provide information to website owners.
We also use localStorage — a browser storage mechanism similar to cookies but stored locally on your device and not transmitted to our servers. We use this solely to remember your cookie preferences.
3. Cookies We Use
3.1 Essential / Functional (No Consent Required)
These are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off. Under PECR, these are exempt from the consent requirement as they are strictly necessary.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
ignotus_cookie_consent |
localStorage | Stores your cookie preference (accepted / rejected) so we don't ask again on every visit. | Persistent (until you clear browser data) |
ignotus_cookie_consent_version |
localStorage | Tracks the version of the consent form accepted — allows us to re-prompt if our policy changes significantly. | Persistent (until you clear browser data) |
3.2 Analytics Cookies (Consent Required)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use our website. This helps us improve content and user experience. These cookies are only set if you click "Accept All". If you decline, Google Analytics is never loaded.
We have configured Google Analytics with anonymize_ip: true and disabled advertising
and Google Signals features to minimise data collection in line with UK GDPR Article 25
(data protection by design and by default).
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Main Google Analytics cookie — distinguishes unique users. | 2 years | |
_ga_XXXXXX |
GA4 session persistence cookie (unique to your Measurement ID). | 2 years | |
_gid |
Distinguishes users — used to throttle request rate. | 24 hours | |
_gat |
Throttles request rate to Google Analytics. | 1 minute |
Google Analytics data is processed by Google LLC (USA). This is protected by Google's Standard Contractual Clauses under UK GDPR Chapter V. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.
3.3 Third-Party Embedded Content
Some pages on our portfolio embed YouTube videos using the privacy-enhanced
YouTube embed domain (youtube-nocookie.com) where possible. YouTube may set
cookies when you interact with (play) an embedded video. These are only activated by
user-initiated playback.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE, YSC, yt-remote-* |
YouTube | Set when you play an embedded YouTube video. Used by YouTube/Google to track video views and preferences. | Session / 6 months |
YouTube is operated by Google LLC. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.
3.4 Google Search Console (No Cookies)
We use Google Search Console to monitor our website's presence in Google Search
results. This tool does not set any cookies on your device. The only evidence of its
use is a verification file (google[...].html) in our site root, which is
a passive ownership verification mechanism.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
| Cookie Type | Legal Basis |
|---|---|
| Consent preferences (localStorage) | Legitimate interest — necessary to respect your choices |
| Google Analytics | Explicit consent (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) & PECR Reg. 6) |
| YouTube embeds | User-initiated — you trigger these by pressing play |
